What buzzword-grade usually means
Your data sits encrypted on disk. One key, held by the cloud provider, opens everything. It protects against someone walking out with a hard drive. Not much else.
Taking it more seriously
What should be the case at the minimum
The app encrypts content before storing it. That adds a second lock between the database and your data. Better than the floor. Still one key away from total exposure.

What it actually means with us
Every person and every relationship gets its own key (AES-256-GCM). Your journal needs your key. Your relationship's agreements need theirs. One person's key never opens another's. The level expected from finance and healthcare.

Your content
Boundaries, agreements, journals, check-ins, care plans. Locked per person or per relationship. AI sees only derived signals (mood, theme), never the writing.
High
Your identity
Name and pronouns, plus the details that make up your identity. Encrypted per person, shared only with the partners you choose. Never used to train AI, and only read by it when you ask for help.
Moderate
Your settings
Your settings and preferences. Encrypted in storage and never sent to AI. Locked because casual exposure matters, even when the stakes are lower.
Low
Our basics
Timestamps and counts, the metadata we publish openly. Only encrypted at rest, going further would impact the app without protecting anything that matters.
